Fall Public Relations Internship at The Walters Art Museum

The Walters Art Museum is pleased to offer opportunities for qualified undergraduate and graduate students, and those in between degree programs, to intern in the Office of Public Relations for a period that corresponds to his or her institution’s fall 2010 semester system. The internship is for a minimum of ten weeks, and the intern works 12-15 hours per week. No stipend is offered for these internships. Students are responsible for arranging academic credit with their sponsoring institutions. The Walters seeks applications from undergraduate juniors and seniors, graduate students or recent graduates majoring in communications, public relations, marketing, arts management or museum studies programs.
Job Description: The office of public relations is looking for public relations interns with excellent writing and critical thinking skills who are organized and detail-oriented and can work independently in a fast paced environment. Microsoft Word, Excel and Access computer skills are necessary as well as fluency with social media.

Tasks could include: Working directly with the Manager of Public Relations on special exhibitions ranging from a children’s book illustrator to medieval European art by collecting press coverage from traditional and online media outlets, researching possible media outlets for the exhibitions, assisting in the drafting of short media advisories related to public programming, drafting fact sheets and bimonthly media calendars, website research and database work. It is a very small office so there would inevitably be "other tasks as assigned."

Communications Specialist*

values of citizen participation, freedom of expression, freedom of religion and equal opportunity for all. The Communications Specialist works with other staff to help shape communications strategies; build working
relationships with the media to position the organization as an expert resource on a range of issues, including constitutional rights and civil liberties, public education, and the Religious Right political movement and
its allies. The position is located in Washington, DC and reports to the Press Secretary.
*Responsibilities: *
• Respond to media queries.
• Prepare press releases, statements, advisories, news kits, and
other media materials.
• Participate in organizing and executing press events.
• Pitch story ideas to print, broadcast, and Internet media, with
appropriate follow-up.
• Arrange media interviews for PFAW spokespersons.
• Assist in the preparation of PFAW briefing materials for
spokespersons.
*Qualifications: *
• Excellent writing skills and ability to generate copy under tight
deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills and professional phone manner.
• Flexibility, resourcefulness, and tenacity for handling multiple
issues and deadlines.
• Creativity and initiative to seek out new approaches and contacts.
• Solid computer skills, including especially word processing,
Internet research and database management.
• At least two years experience in a communications role for an
advocacy organization, public relations firm, association, or elected
official.
• Desirable skills include fluency in Spanish; experience with video
and still photography; and graphic design experience.
• Familiarity with specialty and minority outlets, including African
American and Hispanic outlets, desirable.
• Interest in progressive issues and public interest commitment.

news coverage for the number one station in Central Ohio. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day news coverage,
executing enterprise coverage, and long-range news planning. Must have exceptional news judgment, be extremely resourceful, and make
enterprising a priority. Must be able to manage assignment editors, assist crews with computer assisted reporting skills, and own breaking
news utilizing satellite and live trucks, and state of the art helicopter. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills
coupled with the ability to work effectively under pressure. This position requires at least three years experience on the assignment desk
and previous supervisory experience.
Weekend Morning Meteorologist/Reporter (Job #200BR): WBNS 10TV, Central Ohio’s News Leader, seeks a weekend morning
meteorologist and reporter. The successful candidate will be responsible for anchoring 10TV’s weekend morning weathercasts and weather
producing and/or weather reporting three days per week. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of severe weather, possessing
the skills to deliver a dynamic weathercast as well as excellent reporting skills. This position requires previous experience as a television
meteorologist and reporter, familiarity with current television weather systems, techniques and equipment, including live radar. A
bachelor’s degree in meteorology is preferred.
IT/Broadcast Technician (Job #200TB): WBNS-10TV seeks a highly motivated IT/Broadcast Technician who will be responsible for the
maintenance of server based broadcast equipment. The successful candidate will handle project installation and layout of television and
network equipment, maintain and repair IT based broadcast equipment, support IT functions including company intranet and software
development as well as cross train on all traditional and developing broadcast technologies. This position requires a minimum of two years
experience in IT maintenance and installation, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Three to five years experience in
broadcast television maintenance and a bachelor’s degree in IT related field strongly preferred. Visio Drawing and Mac, and Microsoft

Summary of Position Responsibilities:
Wilt Public Relations is in search of an eager learner who is willing to take initiative to learn more
about this exciting, fast-paced communication field. Wilt PR needs someone who can handle the
responsibility of working on non-profit accounts and other duties as assigned. The intern will work
with company president to implement a contest entry, marketing and development of materials
showcasing Springfield’s beautification assets for entry in the national America in Bloom competition,
which will be judged in summer 2010. The abilities to multitask, think creatively, manage time
and handle deadlines with grace are necessary for this position. The Public Relations Intern will
conduct research, write copy and assist with creative concept development and will require the
completion of some administrative tasks as well. The intern will learn about public relations in a
hands-on, creative, forward-thinking environment. You will have the opportunity to build a portfolio
to show to future employers and will have full access to all of your work upon completion of your
internship.
Desired Qualications:
Wilt PR is looking for a college student that is seeking a degree in Communication, Public Relations,
Journalism, Advertising, Marketing or other communication-related field. The candidate needs to be
a self-starter who possesses both excellent written and oral communication skills. Candidates that
apply must be familiar with both Windows and Macintosh (Apple) Operating Systems and Microsoft
Office. Any knowledge or training a candidate has had in Adobe Creative Suite is also
preferred, as well as past public relations or marketing experiences.
