Two Historical Museum Internships

*Greater Southwest Historical Museum*

1 *Archives Intern, Summer 2010*

The Greater Southwest Historical Museum in Ardmore, Oklahoma, seeks an
archives intern for a 10-12 week internship. The Collections Intern will
assist the Curator in an ongoing cataloging project funded by the
Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Intern will focus on
cataloging the Reference Collection in the Genealogy and Research Library.

_Specific Responsibilities:_
. Arrange, process, and describe the Library collection holdings
consisting of books, ledgers, microfilms, and genealogical and research
information
. Create finding aids on Library collection holdings
. Assist to enter catalogue information into PastPerfect
. Assist in the re-housing of artifacts/objects
. Assist with cleaning and basic preventative conservation of collections.

_Background:_ The Museum's mission is to collect, preserve, and
interpret the cultural, social, and economic history of south central
Oklahoma, with a special emphasis on Ardmore and Carter County. The
Museum is located in a 1936 WPA National Guard Armory, which houses the
Museum as well as the Genealogy and Research Library and Military
Memorial Museum. The Museum is located approximately 90 minutes from
both Oklahoma City and Dallas along I-35.

_Schedule and Compensation:_ The internship period will run from May to
August 2010. The internship weekly schedule will be based upon the
candidate's summer schedule. A minimum of 25 hours per week is expected;
these hours must fall between Monday-Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm.The start
date and schedule are flexible. Interns will be given a $3,000 stipend.
Interns are responsible for their own housing (the Museum will assist
with locating nearby rentals).

_Qualifications:_ Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate
program emphasizing history, museum studies, or closely related field.
Experience with PastPerfect is preferred. Must be well-organized and
detailed-oriented, have strong written and verbal skills, and have
ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
