International Summer Camp Jobs!

Hey Everybody!

I’m writing for your help and ideas for an exciting event I’ll be working on this summer.

This summer I will be direction a 23-day summer camp for Children’s International Summer Villages. This amazing organization brings together kids from all over the world to live and learn together in hopes of building global peace and friendship through understanding. The camp is going to be held in an historic school building here in Cincinnati and will bring together 15 year olds from nine nations (Italy, Iceland, Israel, Sweden, Poland, Portugal, USA, Belgium, and Argentina) for leadership development, peace making and general fun!

So what we need now is a committed and thoughtful staff of energetic and caring people who would like to work together with the leaders from these nine nations to make this amazing camp happen. The camp begins on July 7th and goes through July 30th, although there may be a day or two of set up/tear down on either end. Each staff member will earn $1000 for their work (this means living at the camp 24/7 – you’ll get one day off during camp). If you are coming from somewhere other than Cincinnati, we are happy to put your pay toward your transportation costs (as in we’ll buy you that $400 plane ticket and pay you $600 instead of $1000). There would also be a commitment of one Saturday for a local training near you and an national staff training in Jacksonville, FL the weekend of March 12 (we’ll pay your airfare and lodging).

If this sounds interesting to you, please fill out the attached application (it’s in word and as a pdf) and mail it back to CISV, P.O. Box 9270, Cincinnati, OH 45209 as soon as possible. I’d also love it if you’d shoot me an e-mail to tell me that you’ve applied. These MUST be received by the end of January so we can make the necessary arrangements for training.

If you’ve never heard of CISV and are interested in learning more you can check out their website at: www.cisv.org or you can search youtube for lots of goofy CISV videos.

If you’re wondering what a day at camp might be like, here’s a basic outline:
wake up around 8 for flag and breakfast
a two-hour activity previously planned by a group of young people
an hour of planning time for future events
some time for students to meet with the others from their nation for “delegation time”
lunch
show time, siesta and camp store for 30-45 minutes
2 blocks of activities planned by young people with a snack break in-between
dinner
and evening activity (movie, camp meeting, dance party, concert or other special event, etc..)
flag time
lullabies (group singing before bed)
bedtime around 11
probably a leader’s meeting after lights out or during siesta everyday

The role of the camp staff will be to participate in activities, to manage leaders, take care of logistics for camp excursions, supplies, camp shop, etc.. facilitate music for lullabies, attend daily leaders meetings, keep track of all camp expenditures, build high quality relationships with kids from all over the country, work together with other staff members to solve issues, plan, etc.., make friends and have fun.

So I hope this sounds like something you’d love to do, but if it doesn’t totally work out for you, then please pass this on to other folks that you think would be interested and qualified. As you can see the deadline is tight.

Thanks for your interest and I hope you’re well.

Much love,
Anne

p.s. You must be 21 years old by the time of camp to work on staff.
