Waukesha County Museum Paid and Unpaid Internships for the 2010 Summer Semester

Paid internships

Summer Camp Internship (paid)

The Waukesha County Museum is offering one paid internship position with its Education Department 2010 summer camps. The Education Intern will work directly with the Director of Education to develop, implement, and evaluate the museum’s 2010 summer camps: “Adventures in Wonderland: Exploring What’s Old in New Ways.” These camps will take place June 21 to 25, July 19 to 23, and August 16 to 20, 8:15 am to 5:00 pm, and will focus on science, art, and play, respectively. He or she will work both behind the scenes and with the public and volunteers. This internship will begin on June 8 and will go through August 28. Waukesha County Museum internships require the completion of a minimum of 150 hours within that period. The intern will receive a $375 stipend for the internship. Marketing/Communications Internship (paid)

The Waukesha County Historical Society and Museum is offering a part-time, paid internship position in its Development & Marketing Department for the summer of 2010. The Marketing/Communications Intern (MCI) will report to the Director of Development & Marketing, aiding in designing, implementing, evaluating, and revising all aspects of the museum’s marketing/communications program. The MCI will function as a team member in both the Department and as a member of the entire museum staff. The MCI will also receive exposure to and opportunities to interact with other museum professionals (curator, archivist, education director, etc.). This internship requires the completion of a minimum of 150 hours within three months. For this period, the intern will receive a $375 stipend. Exhibit Research Internship (paid)

The Waukesha County Museum is offering a part-time, paid Exhibit Research Internship for the summer of 2010. The Exhibits Research Internship will provide practical experience researching exhibits that present Waukesha County’s history to visitors of all ages. In 2010, this may include the museum’s summer traveling exhibits and the fall 2010 exhibit, “Memories of World War II.” The intern will work directly with the Curator of Collections& Exhibits and Archivist in many aspects of the museum’s exhibit research, including utilizing the two- and three-dimensional collections and researching secondary sources. The Exhibits Research Intern may perform or contribute to any number of research and writing tasks. This internship requires the completion of a minimum of 150 hours within three months. Unpaid internships

School Programming Internship (unpaid)

The Waukesha County Museum is offering one part-time, unpaid internship position in its Education Department for the summer of 2010. The School Programming Intern will evaluate existing school programming, including on-site tours, Discovery Boxes, and in-class activities and resources. He or she will work directly with the Director of Education as well as the museum’s Education Advisory Council, made up primarily of third- and fourth-grade educators who offer feedback and ideas. Waukesha County Museum internships require the completion of a minimum of 150 hours within three months. This internship is not compensated monetarily.
