The Ohio Legislative Service Commission (LSC) is now accepting applications for the 2012 LSC Legislative Fellowship Program.

The Commission will hire 22 people as full time, paid employees to work in the Ohio Senate, the Ohio House of Representatives, or the Legislative Service Commission. Fellows will be paid $25,400-$27,400. Applicants must complete a bachelor's degree program by December 2011. All majors are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants have good communication and interpersonal skills, an interest in government and/or politics, and most have a strong academic record.

LSC Fellows provide staff assistance to Ohio’s elected officials and gain practical experience in the legislative process and legislative research. Responsibilities may include policy research, assisting with legislation, constituent assistance, communication needs (speeches, press releases, newsletters, correspondence, etc.), and various administrative duties.


Application materials must be postmarked by
April 1, 2011. Interviews will be held during April and May in Columbus. Final selections will be announced in mid-May. Employment will begin the first week of December 2011 and will continue through December 31, 2012.

Fall Internship with Ohio Congressman

Dear Internship Coordinators,

I wanted to let you know that I am now accepting applications for a fall internship with Congressman Austria. We have vacancies in the Congressman’s Washington, DC office, as well as his district offices in Springfield and Lancaster. Please share the following announcement with faculty and any interested students:

Congressman Steve Austria (R-OH-7) is currently seeking interns for the fall 2010 semester for his Washington, DC, Springfield and Lancaster offices. This internship will provide individuals with the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in a Congressional office and a greater understanding of the legislative process. Intern responsibilities generally include answering phones, logging and drafting constituent correspondence, and aiding staff with various projects. Intern duties in the Washington, DC office also include scheduling and conducting tours of the U.S. Capitol building, and attending briefings and hearings. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and possess strong written and oral communications skills. Ohio ties are preferred, but not required. Deputy Director of External Affairs, The Office of the Manhattan Borough President

New York, NY

The External Affairs unit manages intergovernmental affairs, special events, appointments, graphic design, and the office's database. The Deputy Director will report to the Director of External Affairs and will assist the Director in managing all duties of the department.


Duties include: Assist in advancing the Borough President's policy and legislative priorities throughout all levels of government, with special emphasis on the City Council; Represent the Borough President and communicate the goals of the office with key stakeholders as well as act as an intergovernmental liaison to all elected officials and government agencies on the city, state and federal levels.
Requirements include at least two (2) years of experience with government, civic, policy/research or similar organizations.
