Fall Internship with Ohio Congressman

I wanted to let you know that I am now accepting applications for a fall internship with Congressman Austria. We have vacancies in the Congressman’s Washington, DC office, as well as his district offices in Springfield and Lancaster. Congressman Steve Austria (R-OH-7) is currently seeking interns for the fall 2010 semester for his Washington, DC, Springfield and Lancaster offices. This internship will provide individuals with the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in a Congressional office and a greater understanding of the legislative process. Intern responsibilities generally include answering phones, logging and drafting constituent correspondence, and aiding staff with various projects. Intern duties in the Washington, DC office also include scheduling and conducting tours of the U.S. Capitol building, and attending briefings and hearings. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and possess strong written and oral communications skills. Ohio ties are preferred, but not required. Explore the World of International Education Teach English in Saudi Arabia

CITY OF BOWIE Museum Curator Community Services

MUSEUM CURATOR: Division of Historic Properties and Museums operates
six museum sites. Curator responsible for managing collections at the
Belair Mansion, the Belair Stable Museum, Bowie Heritage Center, the
Bowie Railroad Museum, and the Tulip Grove storage facility, as well as
assignments at the Radio and Television Museum. Maintains the Museum's
library and research files.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in American History, Art History, American Studies,
Museum Studies, History Education, Preservation, or related degree.
Postgraduate degree in Museum Studies is beneficial but not required.
Three years experience in historic sites/museums in area of collections
management and public history preferred.

Montgomery County Water Services is looking for an intern for our Safety Department to assume the following responsibilities. We would be looking at a part time, short term position, flexible, where the individual could select the hours they would prefer to work to schedule around classes. Looking for 10-20 hours per week to assume the following tasks.

Scanning Safety Records
Reassembling MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) notebooks
Complete data entry MSDS
Updates to MSDS database
Request SWANA certification after closeof each training class
Routine TrainRec Upkeep (Training System Database)
Complete Emergency Escape Maps for Solid Waste Facility, to be drawn to scale on the computer
Help prepare for safety classes
Various administrative routine tasks
Misc. duties to assist in the production of SWP3 plans and SPCC plans including drawing maps, research information, etc.
Other safety office tasks that may come up requiring assistance

Need to be adept at working with computers including Excel and Word, be able to learn to work with new computer databases, need to be able to do simple math, be able to draw and read simple diagrams and maps.

Visitor Services and Volunteer Manager, Providence Children’s Museum

Visitor Services and Volunteer Manager

Providence Children’s Museum is Rhode Island’s only museum especially for children, their parents and other care providers. Its mission is to inspire learning through active play and exploration. The Museum opened to the public in 1977 and serves 165,000 visitors a year. The Visitor Services and Volunteer Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring the quality of the visitor experience at the Museum. This full-time person supervises a team of five visitor Experience Coordinators, the Housekeeper and an AmeriCorps member; oversees the work of 30 - 50 volunteer and work-study student Play Guides and Admissions Staff; coordinates all volunteers who work in the Museum; and participates as a member of the education department and exhibits team in developing policies, procedures and plans for Museum exhibits and programs.

Qualifications include:

Dynamic team leader with strong communication skills. Reliable, flexible, detail oriented, able to multi-task. At least two years experience in a supervisory position and bachelor’s level degree or equivalent experience. Experience working with children and a passion for children’s playful learning. Excellent customer service skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
