Archaeology/Anthropology Camp Counselor Positions

The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is currently seeking counselors for its summer camp, Anthropologists in the Making. The eight-week day camp (June 21–August 13, 2010) for children ages 7 to 13 will focus on a different topic each week, such as “Sail the High Seas” and “It’s a Celebration.” Positions are seasonal and contractual. Counselors report to the Summer Camp Director.


Position Responsibilities:

Lead and/or assist small and large groups of campers in a multitude of activities such as gallery tours, art projects, games, scavenger hunts, and performances

Foster a fun and positive learning environment by facilitating friendships and teamwork among campers and acting as a mentor


Position Qualifications:

Enthusiasm and experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting

Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills

Competence in teaching, counseling, and administrative work

Patience, creativity, enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility a must

College degree with background in education, anthropology, archaeology, history or art preferred

Must be available to work June 14–August 13, Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week

(June 14–18 is an orientation week with reduced hours)
