Educator Resources Intern for Summer 2010

Summary:
Experience Music Project | Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (EMP|SFM) in Seattle is seeking qualified candidates for an Educator Resources Intern for Summer 2010. The intern’s main project will be assisting the manager for interpretation and educator resources with the development of an improved school-visit program for the 35,000 students, parents and teachers who visit annually, along with managing educator events and resources for a busy education department. This is a 32-40 hr/wk, unpaid internship for 8-10 weeks, depending on intern schedule. The internship can begin any time after June 1, 2010.

Candidates applying for this position should be passionate about providing excellent experiences to youth audiences and services for educators. They should also possess a strong interest in working in informal teaching and learning environments, and developing new ways of engaging teen audiences that promote 21st-Century skills.

Internship Responsibilities:

The Educator Resources Intern will assist the Manager, Interpretation and Educator Resources, in developing, implementing, marketing and assessing educator resources and events. Projects will include:

· Working with the Manager of Educator Resources on a major project to re-vision the school-visit experience at EMP|SFM. In the summer of 2010, this will involve developing pilot gallery experiences to for the museum to be tested during the Fall 2010 quarter.

· Managing Discovery Kit curriculum lending program

· Assisting with planning and execution of educator events and online resources.


All department interns and fellows attend departmental and all-staff meetings and support departmental projects and events (for instance, staffing registration tables, preparing mailings, etc) as time allows.

Learning Opportunities: The intern will learn about content development, logistics and best practices in connection with museum education for EMP’s K-12 constituency. Past interns have written curriculum, implemented educator kits, co-presented at an education conference, and helped create educator programming. This will be an excellent opportunity for students interested in learning about content development, the educator audience, and innovative solutions to serving local and national school-based audiences.

Minimum Requirements/Special Skills:

· Bachelor’s degree in education, humanities, history, anthropology, or related field

· Demonstrated interest in informal learning environments; current enrollment in master’s level program preferred

· Comfortable with MS Office Applications

· Teaching experience; classroom teaching experience preferred.

· Ability to show initiative, think creatively, and work independently
