Dumbarton House Intern

Dumbarton House, a Federal period historic house Museum in Georgetown, seeks a summer intern to support the coordination of Museum programs and operations. Dumbarton House, headquarters of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, offers visitors an opportunity to enhance their appreciation of early American history. The Education intern works with and reports to the Education Director.

A $1165 stipend will be awarded for the Summer 2010 Museum Education Internship and/or academic credit may be arranged in cooperation with a sponsoring college or university.


Schedule

•Times may vary, but typically available 3 days/week including at

least 1 Saturday/month for 10-15 hours a week from June –August;

Available to staff our summer camp June 21-25 8am-1:30pm, August 2-6 8am-1:30pm, August 9-13 8am-1:30pm, and August 16-20 8am-4pm; and •Available to assist with Teacher Professional Development Workshop July 19-July 23, 8am-5pm.


Duties

Contribute to summer camp program development and teach four weeks of

summer camp; •Work cooperatively with the Education Director to

develop and staff Public Programs for adults and families; •Work

cooperatively with the Education Director to develop professional

development programs for Dumbarton House Volunteers; •Assist with

Professional Development Workshops for classroom teachers; •Lead

public tours of the Museum; •Assist with the Museum's development of a

new interpretive plan; •Attend training sessions and ongoing program meetings as scheduled; and •Perform administrative tasks as needed.
