JOB SUMMARY:

WHAT DOES AN IRS TAX COMPLIANCE OFFICER DO?

Tax Compliance Officers interact with customers of our Small Business/Self-Employed Division to resolve both general and technical issues. Tax Compliance Offices conduct investigations of individual and business taxpayers to determine Federal tax liability. They also provide tax law and tax-related accounting assistance for internal and external customers.

Position #2:

UNIQUE ACCELERATED LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY! IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) is offering an opportunity to attract, develop, and retain high potential individuals with fast track progression to the manager level in an abbreviated time frame through the Special Agent Accelerated Leadership Program (ALP). ALP will focus on accelerated development from GL-1811-7/9 Special Agent entry level technical positions to IR-1811-04 management level within three to five years!

Locations: New York, NY & Los Angeles, CA

(Assignment to either location will be made by IRS-CI)

Salary Range: $48,971 to $71,328

Accelerated Leadership Program within the Federal Career Intern Program

As an IRS Accelerated Leadership Program (ALP) special agent, you will be hired under a Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP), where you will serve a three year trial internship appointment in the excepted service. Upon successful completion of this trial internship, you will be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a career or career conditional competitive appointment as a CI Special Agent.

Interns will receive 27 weeks of training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Brunswick, Georgia and on-the-job training, working closely with senior special agents and being assigned tasks performed by other special agents. As an ALP selectee, you will simultaneously go through a formal development plan in accordance with Title 5 CFR § 410.307 that allows completion of required activities within an expedited timeframe including: On-the-Job-Instructor (OJI) directed technical assignments, required reading, e-learning and one-week ALP seminars at each grade level. Each incumbent’s development may be personalized by assignment of “optional” tasks in addition to the “mandatory” tasks at each grade level.

  • Must be available for placement in either New York, NY or Los Angeles, CA
  • Meet maximum entry age: date immediately preceding an individual’s 37th birthday (Applicants presently serving in or have served in a federal law enforcement position may be eligible after their 37th birthday. The maximum age for law enforcement offices does not apply to the hiring of preference eligible veterans.)
  • Under LEAP regulations, must work annual average of 50 hours per week
  • Be available for overtime and overnight travel
  • Attend 27 weeks FLETC training
  • Must carry and use a firearm
  • Possess a valid automobile driver’s license
  • Be physically fit
  • Successfully complete all Federal Law Enforcement Training and all Accelerated Leadership training activities and assignments required of the position.
  • IRS-CI has developed benchmarks to evaluate the quality of each applicants leadership experience, at a MINIMUM, applicants should possess THREE YEARS OF LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE.
