Paid LGBT Internships for Undergraduates and Post-Graduates

The R. Scott Hitt Foundation Internships for 2011
The R. Scott Hitt Foundation is offering funding for qualified candidates with
the vision to be future leaders in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT) movement. Applicants do not need to identify as LGBT in order to apply.
The pro-LGBT sponsoring organization that you choose to apply with will receive funding
to compensate your internship position while you strengthen your resume and gain
valuable skills towards becoming a leader of the future.

The POST-GRADUATE Internship:
THE SCOTT HITT INTERNSHIP IN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 13, 2011

• Post graduate students with strong academic record
• Duration: 7-9 months, 40 hour week - $20,000 Grant
• Location: An established 501(c)3 nonprofit with a commitment to the
advancement of LGBT equality
• Applicant contacts host organization which they want to work with and
co-develops a successful curriculum encompassing these key elements:
communications, fundraising, board development and grassroots policy
• R. Scott Hitt was the former Chair of President Clinton's HIV/AIDS Advisory
Council and the founder of numerous activist and community organizations.
He was a passionate advocate for civil rights and equality in all communities.
• 2-4 recipients per year

The UNDERGRADUATE Internship:
THE A.N.G.L.E. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INTERNSHIP

• Duration: 8 weeks, 40 hour week - $5000 Grant to sponsoring 501(c)3
• Location: An established 501(c)3 nonprofit in Southern California with a
commitment to the advancement of LGBT equality
• Applicant contacts host organization which they want to work with and co-develops a
successful curriculum encompassing key elements of non-profit operations and program development
• Named for the nonprofit ANGLE (Access Now for Gay & Lesbian Equality) which inspired and provided
the funding for these internships
• 3-5 recipients per year

Jameson Camp Opportunitites

Summer Employment for College Students

Jameson Camp is seeking young adults to fill remaining positions for our residential summer camp in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jameson serves children with minor social, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges. This is a great experience for anyone interested in working with diverse populations, but especially for Social Work, Education, and Psychology majors. We offer a traditional camping program for 7 – 16 year olds, a camp focused on Wellness (making healthy living choices), a camp for children impacted by HIV/AIDS, and a Youth Leadership program for 13 – 18 year olds. Our counselors facilitate activities such as art expressions, ropes course, outdoor education, and much more with a focus on character development and inspiring youth to discover their strengths.

  • ACE (Advanced Camping Experience) Program Coordinator (Minimum age of 21.)
  • Head Counselor (Must have supervisory and/or programming experience. Minimum age of 21.)

Interns will be mentored by a collaborative team of software developers and business professionals to assist interns with their assigned projects and to guide interns in developing/enhancing comprehensive research, business, and technical skills. The internship is structured but not inflexible, and represents a course in experiential learning rather than a traditional job. Interns are encouraged to attend and give seminars, engage in group discussion, collaborate on assignments, and discuss their completed projects. And if they choose, there is an exceptional opportunity for interns to help develop and build an actual app!

This is a highly competitive and selective internship program, as there is only one spot available per industry. There will be vast amount of team work, think-outside-the-box behavior, and push-the-envelope attitude within a do-the-unimaginable type framework. You will be creating educational materials to be mailed out MatchingDonors.com patients and donors, and also handed out at dialysis centers explaining to patients about the alternative of finding a living donor through MatchingDonors.com. This will be a regular monthly mail and e-mail campaign to strengthen the goodwill of MatchingDonors.com. We hope that the success of the MatchingDonors.com Marketing Campaign will increase awareness about the alternative of living donors for patients around the United States currently struggling with the transplant process.
