IT INFRASTRUCTURE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Museum Internship in Alaska
The Hammer Museum in Haines Alaska is recruiting for a 3-month internship with a flexible start day from May to September 2012
The Hammer Museum is a non-profit, private entity and the world's only museum dedicated to hammers. Its mission is to provide a view of the past and a history of technology through the use of man's first tool. There are over 1500 hammers on display, ranging from Roman times to the present.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Interns may work on one or more of the following projects: cataloging and researching the museum collection, taking digital photographs of artifacts; website development; assisting with an inventory of the museum collection on a Past Perfect database; public speaking, and newsletter development.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong writing, research and collections care skills.
Strong organizational, multitasking and people skills.
Computer skills, including PastPerfect database software and word processing or a desire to learn them.
Ability to work independently and on detailed tasks.
Knowledge of the history of technology a plus.

Dumbarton House Intership
Dumbarton House, a Federal period historic house Museum in Georgetown, seeks a War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration Intern to support the museum's planning for and participation in region-wide War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemorations. Dumbarton House, headquarters of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, offers visitors an opportunity to enhance their appreciation of early American history. On August 24, 1814, Dumbarton House's third long-term owner, Charles Carroll, escorted First Lady Dolley Madison from the advancing British Army during the Burning of Washington. Dumbarton House, then called Belle Vue, served as her first site of refuge. The year 2014 is designated as the culmination of commemorative activities in the Washington, DC area. The Bicentennial Commemoration Intern works directly with and reports to the Executive Director.
Academic credit may be arranged in cooperation with a sponsoring college or university. A stipend may be available.
Schedule
• 250 hours (roughly 15 hours/week)
Responsibilities
Specific projects will be identified at start of internship based on intern interest and background, and highest staff priorities. Specific duties may include:
- Research: Collate existing Dumbarton House research and resources related to the War of 1812; create summary documents.
- Exhibition: Support research and planning for War of 1812 temporary exhibition; research objects for inclusion; draft wall text; outline and create supplemental materials; identify marketing avenues and draft press releases.
- Group Tours: identify groups with interest in 1812 subject; develop plan for targeted marketing to drive group tour attendance; develop joint tour offerings with other area 1812 sites and/or community sites (restaurants, hotels, retail shops).
- Interpretation: research and create enhanced 1812 interpretive offerings.
- Public & Youth Programming: research and develop public program plan to tie existing programs to 1812 theme.
- Attend training sessions and ongoing program meetings (both internal and external) as scheduled; and
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent research, written, and oral communication skills;
- Knowledge of early American history, architecture, and/or decorative arts;
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, and a sincere and genuine interest in people of all ages, preservation, and American history;

Intern responsibilities will include, but are not limited to assisting Registrars and Collections Specialists with the following tasks:
- Daily monitoring and recording of environmental conditions (temperature, relative humidity, lighting, etc.) in gallery spaces
- Processing donations and incoming loans, including cataloging artifacts in database
- Monitoring and reporting on exhibition conditions as they pertain to exhibited collections
- Assisting with the cleaning of exhibits and artifacts on display pre-opening
- Aiding in the installation and de-installation of exhibited artifacts
- Compiling information for the new Standard Facilities Report particularly regarding the environmental conditions/calculations for each of the galleries
- Helping with basic artifact conservation
- If time and interest permits, short-term, independent research projects related to the collection can be designed
Newspaper archives internship project
For those who already possess or would like to gain archival experience, there is the opportunity to work on a self-directed archival project with the Newseum’s outstanding 35,000 piece newspaper collection (this project will take place at the Newseum’s storage facility in Laurel, MD). Interns will need to be able to frequently handle and carry 30-40 lb. newspaper boxes.

Ohio History Service Corps– AmeriCorps Service Member

The Ohio Historical Society is seeking an AmeriCorps service member to join the Ohio History Service Corps at Dennison Railroad Depot Museum in Dennison, Ohio. The Ohio History Service Corps is an AmeriCorps State program created by the Ohio Historical Society and statewide partners to promote local history, historic preservation and tourism. We welcome applicants looking for experience in community outreach, event planning, public history, K-12 history education, public relations, and tourism.
Position Description: Ten Civil War 150 (CW150) Leadership Corps members will be hosted at partner sites throughout Ohio. Corps members will serve as the coordinator and information clearinghouse for the Civil War commemoration initiatives in their region and will focus on volunteer recruitment and heritage tourism. Service members assist their host organization and other regional organizations with collaborating and building capacity for educational and public programming; special events, and regional initiatives. Members will provide ideas for, plan and lead three of the following five activities, depending on needs of the region and host site as well as the member's skills and interest, during their service time: a) A regional volunteer fair, b) Heritage tourism efforts, such as walking or bus tours or packaging with a convention and visitor bureau (CVB) regional organization, c) Application submissions to the Park Service's Network to Freedom, d) K-12 education outreach, (ex. assisting with History Day; creating teacher resource packages, and/or e) Regional commemoration events. This position is located at the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum.
Program Description: The Ohio Historical Society and its statewide partners developed the Ohio History Service Corps to promote sustainable community development and heritage tourism in Ohio. The Corps consists of three components: Civil War 150 Leadership Corps, to initiate educational programming and regional special events; Ohio History Tech Corps, to provide digitization of historic resources and develop an oral history program; and Historic Preservation Corps, to inventory historic buildings, support community revitalization, and assist local preservation

Our National Security Global Business is currently seeking a Senior Structural Health Engineer. This position is located in Columbus, OH. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. PRIMARY FUNCTION
Develop new business opportunities for Battelle's Service Life Extension (SLE) products and services, specifically in the Structural Life Extension area. Must have the ability to quickly grasp technical problems in this area and effectively develop and present value added solutions to potential customers. Assist in identifying customer issues as they develop and effectively engage internal staff to respond on a timely basis to those issues. Responsible for developing and executing go-to-market plans for potential new clients and developing new business with existing clients, with a view to securing new accounts and re-enforcing long-term strategic relationships.
In addition, provide fatigue, fracture mechanics and design allowable analysis support (up to approximately 25% of available time) to the Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization (MMPDS) Handbook programs. This Handbook is a primary source world-wide of design allowable properties for metallic materials used in aircraft and aerospace structures.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Build and maintain a broad range of new opportunities capable of meeting and exceeding service life extension sales goal.
2. Quickly learn and maintain currency on Battelle’s Structural Life Extension technical capabilities and product offerings to (a) identify corresponding customer needs and markets and (b) analyze competition with respect to our technology offerings in order to facilitate increased sales.
3. Create and execute an effective and prioritized business strategy for assigned customers and markets. Initiate contacts with potential customers to broaden the client base. Interact with NSGB market sectors to secure additional contacts and arrange meetings with prospective new clients. Key skills required include superior presentation skills, knowledge of Battelle's structural life extension technical capabilities, and communication/negotiation skills when necessary.
4. Provide senior leadership and mentor junior staff on execution of technical programs.
5. Gather and provide market research and competition status to technical teams and sales and marketing leadership when applicable. Determine key differentiators for internal products and assess market value.
6. Prepare marketing material and/or input to corporate/global business marketing material. This may include briefings; literature; and input to technical white papers, brochures, and multi-media (e.g., video and web).
7. Use sales reporting tools provided to support goals and objectives. Identify, track, and report assigned metrics with regards to business development activities.
8. Communicate and work closely with existing internal business development and operations teams (all technical and support relationships) to develop proposals and keep others on these teams informed throughout the selling process. Actively engage in capture planning and proposal development.
9. Work with internal business development team members and Structural Life Extension team to continuously improve marketing processes, business development tools and marketing strategies.
10. Participate in a cross-functional, strategic team focused on developing technology refreshment opportunities over a wide range of clients and markets.
11. Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
12. Concentrate ~40% of time worked developing new clients, ~15% on maintaining existing clients, ~10% of time interfacing with technical team to understand capabilities, products, and offerings, including process improvement activities, ~10% of time performing competitive analyses and ~25% of time providing technical support to the MMPDS government and industry programs.
13. Devote approximately 20-40% of available time to travel to client locations, but also have effective knowledge of the latest technology tools to perform the job without travel when necessary.

- Master's degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline (preferably aerospace, electrical or mechanical engineering, physics, or related) with relevant work experience in sales and marketing.
- At least 10-15 years work experience with a successful track record of progressive sales experience and growth in service life extension of avionics, electronics, or mechanical engineering systems within a design or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated skills in business plan development and market analysis in a Government-facing market.
- Success in leading technical projects/programs and marketing responsibilities with experience interfacing with Government clients.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively within and outside of Battelle, and skilled in giving presentations and leading meetings.

Our National Security Global Business is currently seeking a Industrial Hygiene Researcher. This position is located in Dayton, Ohio. Relocation support is not available.
Position Summary
The position will work within the Medical Research and Response Product Line which specializes in support for public health and occupational health programs. The purpose of this position is to provide clients technical advice and assistance in industrial hygiene; occupational, environmental and public health hazard assessment; health risk assessment; incident response planning, training, and evaluation; CBRN/TIC/TIM recognition to include countermeasures; health-related vulnerability assessments; and environmental monitoring technical support and assistance. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. A full benefits package will be provided. Relocation support is not available.
Specific Position Requirements
Project Management: Provide technical support in the planning and management of projects from inception to completion utilizing good business practices, Battelle guidelines and resources to provide quality products within task scope, resources and timelines in the technology areas of: Occupational, environmental and public health response, health risk assessment, and countermeasures to CBRN/TIC/TIM hazards for the following clients (in order of priority): (a) US military and Department of Defense (DoD) civilian personnel and facilities; (b) other DoD clients; and (c) civilian clients.
- Be a part of a team of professionals who provide clients with industrial hygiene, occupational, environmental and public health operational risk management and force health protection technical and support services specializing in health risk and vulnerability assessment for CBRN/TIC/TIM hazards.
- Assist in providing project technical consultations and recommendations to supervisor and conduct client projects to address specific problems including determining the specific techniques, tasks and procedures for problem solution.
Business Development: Identify to immediate supervisor new business opportunities in the technology areas listed in the Project Management paragraph above. Assist in the preparation of marketing presentations focused on client needs and Battelle capabilities, as requested.
Consultation and Coordination: Assist other Battelle elements in providing quality products by developing an understanding of the greater Battelle capability, recommending tasks for execution within Battelle to best support the client, and participating in matrixed staff support for project execution across the National Security business areas.
- Under immediate supervisor’s guidance and direction, provide supporting documentation and assistance for conceptual scopes of work, formal proposals, program schedules and cost estimates, coordinating among Battelle’s business sectors as appropriate.
- Provide support to projects regarding cost and schedule, market capability to prospective new clients, and team members’ goals and objectives.
- Serve as industrial hygiene and occupational, environmental and public health technical support for other elements of the organization providing CBRN/TIC/TIM hazard avoidance planning and force health protection consultations to leading DoD, federal, state and industrial clients.
- Technical skills supporting traditional industrial hygiene and occupational, environmental and public health tasks may be required such as performing surveys, equipment and process hazard analyses and operational risk management assessments, formulating corrective actions, and developing and providing training.
Facilitation and Instruction: Provide subject matter expertise and instruction for technical seminars, workshops and discussion groups; tabletop and field exercises; and technical skills training in the areas of CBRN/TIC/TIM incident response planning for military installation and medical facilities.
Risk Assessment: Provide technical support in addressing planning issues involving CBRN/TIC/TIM defense within passive, consequence management, force health protection and military operational risk management areas. Facilitate the development of force health protection, incident response guidelines and training to assess risk and communicate mitigation.
Required Qualifications
- At least 15 years US military experience as a technician, supervisor, and mid level manager working in operational bioenvironmental engineering, preventive medicine, occupational medicine or medical operations; 5 of those years with force health protection and incident response support responsibilities for the Air Force, Army, or Navy.
- Strong academic background or experience in chemistry, biology, physics or basic sciences.
- In-depth experience in health and CBRN/TIC/TIM hazard assessment in occupational and incident response environments.
- Experience supporting professional/technical staff and employees working at remote field sites.
- Secret security clearance or eligible for secret clearance or able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects while meeting technical requirements, budgets, and deadlines.
- Physically capable of performing the essential job functions of an industrial hygienist at a work site while wearing personal protective equipment, to include respiratory protection and protective clothing. It is envisioned that wearing PPE will be infrequent but necessary for the job.
- Willingness to travel to client locations worldwide, on an as-needed basis
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in the biological or physical sciences, quantitative analysis, statistics or occupational health is desirable.
- Experience in occupational health or industrial hygiene program management.
- Familiarity with USAFSAM curriculum development using the Instructional Systems Development (ISD) approach Proficiency with field detection equipment, such as the HAPSITE portable GC/MS, HazMat ID Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, ADM-300 radiation meter, and SAM-935 gamma spectrometer.
- Possess a Secret security clearance
